![]() Accompanying lot is a copy of provenance from the grandson. PROVENANCE: Thulin Estate, Hamden, Maine. Robert Saltonstall on his letterhead and also signed. Also a pencil drawing of a corner of a frame design with annotations and with note to Mrs. An ink drawing of a carving with a matching overlay stencil. A copy of an engraved illustration from the Boston Sunday Herald, November 13th, 1924 “Walfred Thulin, Great Swedish Wood Carver”. Photographs include five frames a carved baptismal two ornate religious frames a carved lift top chest a photograph of Thulin at Niagara Falls an outstanding photograph of a carvers workshop early in Thulin’s career and probably Montreal, Canada a photograph of Thulin’s workshop with inventory which shows various frames, a carved baptismal, blanket chest, two church chairs and frame in progress. The lot includes: twelve photographs, three original drawings, a copy of a newspaper illustration, a business card with envelope and newspaper obituary. GROUP OF THULIN ARCHIVAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND DRAWINGS. CONDITION: Book shows use with some stains on front watercolor. PROVENANCE: Goodspeed’s Book Shop to present consignor. Envelope is good and the frame has a Goodspeed’s Book Shop Inc. The letter is in good condition with folds and some browning. The envelope addressed to Dorothy with a small watercolor of a hand with a glass. He signs it “Waldo” and it is dated “March 31st, 1943”. The letter explains that he is doing the book watercolor for her and explains some of the picture to her. Accompanying the book is a framed letter and envelope which correspond to the book and is a letter to Dorotea. She or he appears to be presenting this book. The title page with pasted on square 6” x 6-1/2” watercolor showing Waldo Peirce kneeling on a beach in front of a woman in military outfit with her Company behind. Points of land are labeled “Campobello – New Brunswick” and another. The inside cover and first page have a watercolor painting of a lighthouse and buildings on a small island with coastline, boats and seagulls. ![]() The book includes its original jacket which is as is. ![]() Book: Waldo Peirce by Margit Varga New York, The Hyperion Press Harper & Brothers 1941.
